Rick Fines Trio - "Riley Wants His Life Back"
(2003)
The album is lush with the influences of the early Jazz and Jump Blues
from Django Reinhardt to Meade Lux Lewis, Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan
and Charles Brown.
The trio... has thoroughly absorbed these styles and it seems as
natural to them as breathing. Fines sings in an intimate, relaxed
voice that's as steeped in jazz/blues as Dr. John or Mose Alison and
just as effective. There's even a little Zydeco thrown in. The trio
also has great instrumental back-up from track to track, especially
drummer Al Webster and the fine trumpet and cornet work of Chris
Whiteley. Fines (with some help from the others) is also a fabulous
songwriter... A must-have gem of a recording for those who dig their
sound retro. - Barry Hammond Penguin Eggs

"Out of the Living Room"
(1998) Rick's second solo album, is just that:
out of the living room, informally recorded, capturing the warmth and life
of Rick's music. Simple and authentic, this album features the
contributions of several fine musicians including Alec Fraser, Rob
Phillips, Mathew Fines, Alan Black, Willie P. Bennett, Roly Platt and Chris
Whiteley.
Out of the Living Room covers a wide range of moods. From the
upbeat Proud Papa to the reflective 2000 Miles back Home,
Rick once again shares with us the human stories that make his original
songs so engaging. In the three cover tunes on this album we can clearly
hear the voice of the blues, especially in his spare and haunting version
of the Stones' No Expectations.

| Before going solo, Rick was also an integral part of JACKSON DELTA. After 15 years of work in coffee houses, clubs, colleges, concert halls and festivals, JD emerged as a world-class acoustic roots/blues band. It may have been Stereophile magazine that described the band best: "homemade, late-night, bare-bulbed, linoleum-floored kitchen blues with gritty vocals, solid arrangements and always biting rhythms."
JD released four albums which, unfortunately, are no longer available.
